About Us
KIPP North Star Elementary & Middle School is a tuition-free PK-8 public charter school in North Minneapolis, founded in 2008. They believe that each child comes into their school bearing gifts & talents, so their educators & staff strive to support students in building the skills & confidence they need to thrive.

KIPP’s academic programming is focused on preparing students for college & life beyond. Students have opportunities every day to foster & develop independence. From student-led discussions to analyzing texts, to researching & visiting local colleges, KIPP students grow by stepping out of their comfort zone & succeeding in new situations. The school’s academic programming is also centered around ensuring that each individual student’s academic needs are understood & met. They understand that students are unique–some may need extra support or extra challenges, & they strive to know & provide that. KIPP infuses joy & a love of learning into academics. Teachers pay attention to even the smallest details, from classroom environment to lesson plan design, to ensure students have fun & stay engaged. KIPP offers arts-focused & STEAM programming, with an early focus on literacy.

Special Education is a specially designed instruction, at no cost to parents, to meet the unique needs of a child with a disability. Children who receive special education & related services are entitled to a free & appropriate public education (FAPE). This includes opportunities to participate in the school’s general curriculum & to make progress towards meeting annual goals. Children who receive special education must also have opportunities to take part in other typical school activities that are appropriate to their individual needs.
Special education services at KIPP are tailored to meet each student’s unique needs through an Individualized Education Program (IEP). Students may qualify for special education under one or more of 13 disability categories, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Specific Learning Disorder (SLD), Emotional Behavioral Disorder (EBD), & Speech/Language Impairment, among others.
At KIPP, their goal is to provide students with the tools & support they need to succeed academically, socially, & emotionally.

KIPP Minnesota offers programming for students where English is a new language. The primary purpose of the English Language Learner (ELL) program is to provide students with an educational environment that gives them the best opportunity for success. KIPP’s ELL program is highly personalized & focuses on developing speaking skills, with the integration of reading & writing as the student progresses.
