Special education programming

In an effort to discover what would be most helpful to a student, a teacher may refer a child for testing. The teacher will notify the principal before calling the parents or guardians about referring students for special help. Information from this testing can be used to help the student in the classroom to be more successful. To ensure confidentiality, any information requested from the teachers, or school staff will be sent directly to the doctor, psychologist, or institution that requires the information.
Occasionally there is a student with a significant learning disability or behaviors whose education needs are greater than the resources at St. Alphonsus Catholic School. In those cases, St. Al’s tries to help each parent or guardian make an informed decision based on what is in their child’s best interest.

School values

St. Alphonsus Catholic School is committed to honoring all with dignity & compassion, empowering leadership through service, & igniting the spiritual life of all students. We discover & value the strengths of our students & challenge them to achieve their full potential as lifelong learners.

Discipline Policy

St. Alphonsus Catholic School strives to provide an atmosphere focused on learning. They aim to make learning something valued by every student, parent, guardian, teacher, & support staff in the school community.
They believe that every student has a right to learn to her or his fullest potential and that it is unfair for any individual to take time away from the students or the teacher for behavior that does not contribute to learning. Issues are best addressed within the classroom or in a meeting with the Dean of Students or the Principal. They decide on appropriate consequences ranging from a quiet conversation to something more serious that could involve in-school suspension, out-of-school suspension, or possibly expulsion from school.
Fighting, the presence of weapons, involvement with chemicals, intimidation, & harassment issues are never allowed at St. Alphonsus Catholic School.

Bullying Prevention Policy

A safe environment is one where students & adults are not only free of physical threat, but also free of emotional & psychological threats. St. Al’s expects students & adults to respect one another, despite their differences, & to treat every person with the dignity he or she has a right to expect. St. Alphonsus Catholic School staff, students, parents, guardians, & the community must work together to eliminate bullying.
