Academic programming

MTCS is here for your student.
Student success is all about getting just what a student needs when they need it. Because MTCS is a large, state-wide program, they have resources that many schools don’t & access to lots of great support & opportunities. Since the school has so many programs within this big academic community, they can offer small classroom sizes, online options, & all kinds of resources so that students succeed, stay in school, & graduate.
Students get lots of attention, because MTCS’ classes are small. Students also have lots of choices & opportunities thanks to the school’s Academic Community.
MTCS’s goal is to help students succeed in school, learn, & get ready for their futures. The school began in 1995, & for more than 20 years, MTCS has been supporting students & families all around Minnesota. Their classroom based programs are all in the Twin Cities metropolitan area, while their online programs are statewide. MTCS Schools are state approved, public charter schools. MTCS quality education prepares students for what’s next in their lives–including college & careers.

School values

MTCS enhances the lives of students with programs & support that prepare them for life–academically, culturally, emotionally, & socially.

Discipline Policy

All students are entitled to learn & develop in a setting which promotes respect of self, of others, & of property. Proper positive discipline can only result from an environment which provides options & stresses student self-direction, decision-making, & responsibility. Schools can function effectively only with internal discipline based on mutual understanding of rights & responsibilities.
MTCS students must conduct themselves in an appropriate manner that maintains a climate where learning can take place. Overall decorum affects student attitudes & influences student behavior. Proper student conduct is necessary to facilitate the education process & to create an atmosphere conducive to student achievement.

Bullying Prevention Policy

A safe & civil environment is a must for students to learn, attain high academic standards, & to promote healthy human relationships. Bullying, like other violent or disruptive behavior, is conduct that interferes with a student’s ability to learn &/or a teacher’s ability to educate students in a safe environment. MTCS cannot monitor the activities of students at all times & eliminate all incidents of bullying between students, particularly when students are not under the direct supervision of school personnel. However, to the extent such conduct affects the educational environment of MTCS & the rights & welfare of its students, & is within the control of MTCS in its normal operations, MTCS intends to prevent bullying, & to take action to investigate, respond to, & to remediate & discipline for those acts of bullying which have not been successfully prevented.
The purpose of this policy is to assist MTCS in its goal of preventing & responding to acts of bullying, intimidation, violence, reprisal, retaliation, & other similar disruptive & detrimental behavior.

Equity vision

Minnesota Transitions Charter School believes equity provides historically disenfranchised students the opportunity for an education where they have access to the resources & opportunities that will elevate them holistically & empower them to advocate for meaningful & intentional work. The school recognizes that eliminating barriers requires daily reflection, engagement, & practice. They commit to actively breaking down internal systems of oppression, leveling professional power, & valuing the assets of difference.
MTCS is committed to keeping students learning & in school, & that means tackling difficult things like racial equity & resolving conflict. Understanding how conflict is resolved, & making sure that justice runs deep in how staff & students understand & relate to each other, is at the core of keeping students thriving & in school, & will positively impact student life.
