Academic programming

Friendship Academy works to use the best teaching practices to create high-quality learning. Across all grades, FAA teachers give standards-based lessons & use research-based strategies to help develop the whole child–academically, socially, emotionally, & artistically. Throughout the school, teachers use common methods & shared language. Lessons are data-driven & individualized learning plans are created for each student to create the equity needed helping each student become the best of themselves. To provide the best instruction possible, FAA works with educational experts to integrate best practices into the curriculum. At FAA, parents & guardians are essential partners in their children’s education, & the school works hard to build this partnership.

Academic Programs Offered:

Arts Focused Programming, College Prep, Multi-Grade Classrooms, Personalized learning, STEM/STEAM

Special education programming

FAA has a robust Special education program. Teachers provide direct instructions & push-in instruction in the classroom. Special Education teachers work with regular education teachers to plan appropriate programs for all scholars in compliance with the Individual Education program (IEP). FAA works with a team of experts to provide related services (Speech/language, Occupational Therapy, Adaptive Special Education, Autism support among others).

English language learner programming

Friendship Academy of the Arts does not currently have any scholars requiring ELL services. As a result, FAA’s ELL program is currently in development.

Discipline Policy

All students are entitled to learn & develop in a setting which promotes respect of self, others, & property. Proper positive discipline can only result from an environment that provides options & stresses student self-direction, decision-making, & responsibility. Schools can function effectively only with internal discipline based on mutual understanding of rights & responsibilities. Students must conduct themselves in an appropriate manner that maintains a climate in which learning can take place. Overall decorum affects student attitudes & influences student behavior. Proper student conduct is necessary to facilitate the education process & to create an atmosphere conducive to high student achievement.
Although this policy emphasizes the development of self-discipline, it is recognized that there are instances when it will be necessary to administer disciplinary measures. It is the position of the school that a fair & equitable student discipline policy will contribute to the quality of the student’s educational experience. This discipline policy is adopted in accordance with and subject to the Minnesota Pupil Fair Dismissal Act, Minn. Stat. §§ 121A.40-121A.56
