Las Estrellas offers after school programs which are coordinated by their Community Education department & the extended learning program in Minneapolis Public School. The school’s extracurricular curriculum opportunities take place on Tuesday & Thursday evenings.

Las Estrellas offers full-day pre-kindergarten; High Five; high-quality bilingual instruction from ECSE to 5th grade; & a linguistically & ethnically diverse teaching community. The school also has a comprehensive curriculum with a holistic approach to learning where students’ voices are valued & amplified. Students at Las Estrellas can take specialist classes in the following subjects: Language, Music, Culture, Physical Education, Instrumental Music, Science, & Visual Arts. The school has a dedicated staff who supports the physical & social-emotional well-being of their students. Las Estrellas also provides cultural experience opportunities & afterschool enrichment opportunities. They have a licensed interventionist, & they host Racial Affinity Groups for students in Kindergarten to Grade 5.

Las Estrellas offers dual language education starting at the age of 3 with early childhood education through 5th grade. They currently offer students services in settings II & III. All special education staff are bilingual from speech & language to social worker to occupational therapy.  Classroom teachers & aides are also bilingual.

Las Estrellas offers English as a second language specialized instruction co-led by their general education teachers & English language teachers. This helps build students’ linguistic skills in both English & Spanish. All students newly arrived to the country receive support through a newcomer’s class in addition to the standard EL dual language model. The school’s goal is for all students to be fully biliterate by Grade 5.

Discipline Policy

Las Estrellas staff are tasked with modeling expected behaviors in a welcoming community with adults & children. The school’s teachers lead the teaching of student expectations in the school community. When school community expectations are not followed, teachers must reteach & support students relearning school rules, & assist them in repairing any harm caused within the community. Through the use of restorative practices & logical consequences, along with support from the school’s socio-academic liaison, Las Estrellas identifies the skills needed to help their students understand & demonstrate expected behaviors & restore relationships with their peers & staff.

Bullying Prevention Policy

Las Estrellas will not tolerate behavior that infringes on the physical & emotional safety of any student. They define bullying as repeated unwanted, aggressive behavior which involves a real or perceived power imbalance. A student shall not intimidate, harass, or bully another student through words or actions. Such behavior includes: direct physical contact, such as hitting or shoving; verbal assaults, such as teasing or name-calling; & social isolation or manipulation. The school investigates all reports of bullying to ensure the safety of all students.
