AAST offers enrichment programs & student clubs both before school & after school. Chess club & academic enrichment meet at 7:00 AM while the basketball team, & the Archery, Mathematics, Science & debate clubs meet after school at 3:00PM.

AAST aims to create teaching  strategies that are based on best practices & are responsive to students’ cultural & prior knowledge to maximize learning. The school prioritizes the use of teaching strategies based on contemporary research from learning sciences & English Language Learners.
The SIOP model is an integral part of classroom instruction to meet the needs of all learners. Teachers implement various collaborative learning models to engage students & capitalize on their communication skills through the use of productive talk. The school uses classroom spaces, & tables & chairs instead of independent desks to promote shared learning & the co-construction of knowledge. 
Teachers also use technology to share assignments via Google Classroom & other online platforms to increase student engagement with the content & to provide unlimited access to learning materials.

Credit Recovery, Online Learning, PSEO, Personalized Learning, Professional Internships and/or Job Shadowing, STEM/STEAM

Special education programming

The special education program at AAST provides  strong academic & social-emotional support to students with IEP & to the general education program. The Special Education program director, Saido Abdirashid (CEO & Executive Director of EdFirstMN) works closely with a school psychologist & a speech & occupational therapist to provide quality programs to students at the school. The program staff also includes a DHH teacher along with an audiologist working closely with the school nurse, Mr. Abdirahman Abdi, to provide comprehensive programming to students identified as needing special education services. The program served 4 students with IEPs & all of them continue to thrive & to continue their education at the school.

Discipline Policy

Aim Academy expects students to conduct themselves in an orderly, courteous, dignified, & respectful manner. This requirement includes their actions toward other students & teachers, their language, their dress, & their manners. Students have a responsibility to know & respect the policies, rules, & regulations of the school. Breaking any policies, rules, & regulations will result in disciplinary action. Aim Academy is authorized to bring electronic devices, including cell phones, tablets, & other similar devices, into the classroom when appropriate to strengthen learning & student achievement. Aim Academy has established rules & expectations for student use of electronic devices, & students will be disciplined in accordance with this policy for any inappropriate or unauthorized use of a device.
School authorities may use probation & suspension, & recommend expulsion, if necessary, to enforce this policy. Disciplinary action will be taken in accordance with appropriate procedural rights being afforded to students & their parents/guardians as provided by State law, the School Board & Aim Academy.

AAST respects all students that come to school. They hope to make it the best experience possible. Although for the most part students are respectful, students may face times where staff or students may pick on, harass, or even fight students. This can happen in person or online &  is known as bullying. AAST looks to take proactive steps to prevent bullying & to deal with bullying when it happens.
