Located in South Minneapolis, Longfellow Alternative High School provides a personalized learning environment for students to complete their high school education & build a strong future through an emphasis on attendance, academic achievement & positive relationships. By encouraging critical thought, providing prenatal & parenting education, & partnering with community services, the school supports diploma-driven parents & kindergarten ready children as they establish the groundwork for lifelong learning.

Programación académica

Longfellow High School utilizes a personalized school model tailored to the needs & interests of each individual student. Through flexibility & choice, they honor & recognize the unique gifts, skills, passions, & attributes of each student, as well as each student’s challenges & obstacles to learning. Students choose how they will accomplish their goals–with the support of teachers & instructional support staff, through project-based learning (PBL), blended online courses, as well as some small group projects & seminars. Advisors work with each student to create a personalized pathway to graduation, including plans for completing required credits & incorporating job skills, internships, classes at MCTC, & other activities depending on each student’s career goal.

Academic Programs Offered:

College prep, Credit recovery, Multi-Grade Classrooms, PSEO, Personalized Learning, Professional Internships and/or Job Shadowing

Longfellow High School believes in a comprehensive approach to providing positive education options, health, & pregnancy prevention for teen parents. They strive to support students in improving their attendance & enhancing their academic performance. At Longfellow High School, students’ children receive high-quality childcare that prepares them for kindergarten & beyond through the school’s Early Learning Center.

Discipline Policy

MPS recognizes that appropriate school behavior is critical to academic success & to sustaining a rich & effective learning community. Their Discipline & Student Behavior Policy states that student instruction time lost due to removal from classes in response to misbehavior must be minimized. MPS looks to parents & families to partner in teaching & supporting appropriate school behavior to maximize the academic success of their students.

Bullying Prevention Policy

The MPS Bullying & Hazing Prohibition Policy exists to maintain a safe & supportive learning environment for students & staff that is free from bullying or hazing.
