Stonebridge World School is a Pre-K-6 Minneapolis public charter school that offers a combination of a global curriculum, different services, & a central location designed to provide a first-class education to Minneapolis students. Stonebridge is a safe, small school community that focuses on building global citizens through reading, writing, & math combined with arts, technology, & physical education to educate the whole child.
Stonebridge follows the Responsive Classroom program, which brings together what children need to learn with what schools know about how they need to learn. Teachers pay equal attention to social & academic learning. Social learning is centered around cooperation, assertion, responsibility, empathy, & self-control. Teachers learn about their students individually, culturally, & developmentally.

The special education program at Stonebridge World School provides specially designed instruction to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities, as mandated by laws such as the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). At the core of these programs is the Individualized Education Program (IEP), a personalized plan developed with parents to set annual goals, outline necessary services & accommodations, & track student progress in the least restrictive environment possible. Stonebridge serves students with a variety of different needs & will accept students up to Federal Setting 03 (60%+ outside of the classroom). The goal is to foster academic success, social skills, & independence for all students with disabilities.

Curricula

Stonebridge utilizes the following curricula: Pre-K Reading & Math: The Creative Curriculum. K-6 Reading: EL- Open-up Resources. K-6 Math: Everyday Mathematics.

Stonebridge’s English Language Learner (ELL) program has doubled in capacity to better serve our students & families. It is designed to meet the needs of their growing multicultural community while honoring & respecting all cultures represented in the school. Students receive individualized support through small group pull-out sessions, where ELL teachers tailor lessons to each student’s language level & learning needs. Instruction focuses on developing strong language skills & building confidence in both academic & social English. Collaboration between ELL teachers & classroom teachers ensures that students can apply their English skills across all subjects & fully participate in school life.

Discipline Policy

Stonebridge focuses on providing a Responsive Classroom approach, training all teachers in the principles & practices. This approach has teachers working with students at the beginning of the year on hopes & dreams, classroom essential agreements, modeling expectations, & guided discovery. They build community through a variety of activities & team games. Responsive Classroom allows teachers & students to work together to create an understanding of expectations. The goal is to teach students to act in ways that contribute to academic achievement & school success, & to support a school environment where students & staff are responsible & respectful.
When students are disruptive or act inappropriately, school staff & administrators respond to this behavior logically, appropriately, & consistently. Stonebridge has adopted a restorative justice approach, focusing on problem-solving, circle conversations, logical consequences, & addressing harm in a positive & collaborative manner.

Bullying Prevention Policy

A safe & civil environment is needed for students to learn & attain high academic standards & to promote healthy human relationships. Bullying, like other violent or disruptive behavior, is conduct that interferes with a student’s ability to learn &/or a teacher’s ability to educate students in a safe environment. Stonebridge World School intends to prevent bullying & to take action to investigate, respond, remediate, & discipline those acts of bullying which have not been successfully prevented. The purpose of this policy is to assist the school in its goal of preventing & responding to acts of bullying, intimidation, violence, reprisal, retaliation, & other similar disruptive & detrimental behavior.

The principles of the equity vision at Stonebridge World School have been part of everyday practices since the school’s inception. They believe every student needs to be recognized for who they are, where they come from, & supported with resources to adequately serve their needs. Building relationships with students & their families is a cornerstone value at the school, done through a range of ways including ongoing communication, affirmative listening, & providing authentic responses. Teachers & staff at the school have experience working with a very diverse group of students & families. The learning program features research-based curriculum & hands-on learning opportunities that include service-learning projects & inquiry-based global units of study. They provide extensive support services, recognizing the high needs that many of our students bring to school & develop opportunities for active parent participation. They continue to commit every day to address systemic barriers that affect their families & impact academic learning with teachers & staff making the continued effort to educate themselves & work to address practices that contribute to inequities.
